Once me and my brother were in west Virginia hunting and we decided we were gonna stay on the top of this mountain over night because we saw some evidence that white tail frequented the area. It was winter so it was super cold. We got this pile of wood together but everything was sort of damp because of the snow. We tried to get this wood burning for probably 15-20 minutes and it wasn’t working out. It was starting to get dark and colder. We had not at this point ever used a black beard firestarter, my wife had got me some to take a long for this hunting trip but generally starting a fire is no big deal. I shredded one of these up and mixed it in with a wood pile and it lit so fast I was really surprised and also it burned so long that it caught the wood and was the foundation of the fire until it took off on its own.
