I have a Craftsman M260 163cc self-propelled mower. The gas cap started to spin off when I should mow around my shrubs. Note: My shrubs are well manicured. Also, I noticed the gas cap would come loose by the mower’s vibration. Yes, my blade is balanced. I decided to purchase a replacement gas cap. They arrived and I compared them to the original gas cap. They are an exact match – almost. When I removed the original gas cap and applied these caps, both of them were incredibly loose fitting. I could easily spin them off. Then it dawned on me what the issue is. It’s the O ring. The O ring that comes on these caps are too thin. They are thinner than the OEM O ring on the original gas cap, too.I purchased a bag of O rings from here:222 Buna-N O-Ring, 70A Durometer, Black, 1-1/2″ ID, 1-3/4″ OD, 1/8″ Width (Pack of 100) https://a.co/d/fRrQDMmThey arrived today. I replaced the O ring on both caps and applied the caps to the gas tank. Snug fit – even moreso than the original gas cap.If I had realized it was O ring issue, I would have just replaced the O ring on the original cap. So, I have 2 extra gas caps.Somebody may chime in saying, “If the fit is that tight, the gas won’t be able flow.” That would be incorrect. If you flip the gas cap over, you should see two pin holes. Those are the vents. True, some mowers don’t have vented caps. My mower does.If you ran over your gas cap with your mower, then grab these gas caps along with O rings I shared the link to. If you are just purchasing a new gas cap because your current one is loose, buy only the O rings and replace the one on your current gas cap. Or, yet another plot twist, if you just want 2 extra gas caps in the event you refill the tank, leave the lid off accidentally, and mow it to shreds, grab this set of gas caps and the O rings. It was more cost effective to buy the bundle of O rings than one single O ring for the same price. I figured I would mention that because the bag has 100 O rings.Hope this helps.Christopher – The Tall One
