This kit contains 10 test lead sets. Each set is clips attached to red and black two wire zip cord. I appreciate these being together in pairs as it helps keep my work area clear when I’m working. Even if you only need one lead here and there, there are plenty in the package. The clips are pretty standard for alligator clips. in my 40-plus years of using these kind of clips my experience is that they eventually fail at the hinge point. Good thing there are plenty of leads in the package. The biggest issue with these is the way the wire and conductor are attached to the clip. The conductor is folded back against the insulation and the wire retaining prongs are folded down to hold the wire in place. This doesn’t provide a great connection, and if the lead gets pulled it can dislodge the wire from the prongs and wreck the connection.I’ve had dozens of test leads over the years that use this connection, and every one of them has failed at some point. If the clip is in good shape, I will strip back some insulation and solder the conductor to the clip. When I do that the leads actually perform better than new until the clip itself fails. The other issue I see with the way the conductors are connected is the connection has some resistance that doesn’t need to be there. I measured these leads and there was about 1-Ohm of resistance end to end. My experience is that the fold over connection on these will present higher and higher resistance over time.I hate having to test my test leads every time before I use them. So I should probably go ahead and solder these now, but I won’t. I’ll just keep on doing what I have been and fix them as they fail.
