IWC Portugieser Grande Complication Concept & Heritage The Grande Complication represents the watchmaking zenith of the Schaffhausen manufactory. In the reference IW377401 brings together the most prestigious complications in watchmaking: Perpetual calendar, Minute repeater and Chronograph. This model was produced as an exclusive small series and is available worldwide. limited to 100 copies. The choice of Platinum as the case material underlines the ultimate claim to value and durability of this collector's item. Caliber & Technology The centerpiece is the highly complex Caliber 79091, which consists of 657 individual parts. It orchestrates the interaction of the mechanical functions. The perpetual calendar is mechanically pre-programmed for 500 years and requires no correction until the year 2100. Minute repeater strikes the hours, quarter hours and minutes on two gongs. Despite its enormous complexity, the movement offers a power reserve of 44 hours and works with 28,800 vibrations per hour. Case & Material The imposing housing measures 45 mm in diameter and is made from solid Platinum manufactured. Due to the density of the material, the sound development of the repeater poses a physical challenge that has been mastered by the special case construction. The case back is engraved with a sextant, a symbol of the maritime tradition of the Portugieser line. The striking slider for activating the striking mechanism is located on the left-hand side of the case. Aesthetics & Readability Despite the wealth of information, the silver-plated dial retains the classic Portugieser symmetry. The four sub-dials at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock integrate the calendar displays, the moon phase and the chronograph totalizers. A characteristic feature is the four-digit year display between 7 and 8 o'clock. Blued feuille hands and applied Arabic numerals provide contrast and elegance.
